Frequently Asked Questions
Short answers to the questions we are asked most often.
- Does ARKAK work without an internet connection?
- Yes. The device keeps its own database and never blocks on the network. Import, calculation, analysis, PDF generation and export all work offline. A device that has never been connected to a server runs in Local Mode, which is a permanently supported state rather than a temporary one.
- Which devices does ARKAK run on?
- iPhone and iPad, on iOS and iPadOS 16.6 or later. Some capabilities require specific hardware: LiDAR capture needs a LiDAR-equipped device, and external GNSS workflows need a compatible receiver.
- Can two people work on the same project?
- Accounts, invitations, roles and company-level isolation are in place, and survey points synchronise between devices. Synchronisation of surfaces, alignments, features and attachments is in development. Until it ships, whole projects can be moved between devices as project packages.
- Does ARKAK convert between coordinate systems?
- No. A project carries a single coordinate reference label and an affine source-to-project transform applied at import. ARKAK does not perform datum or grid transformations, and will not silently reproject data. Convert in your office toolchain before import.
- Is an ARKAK cut sheet a substitute for a design package?
- No. The Cut Sheet Designer classifies a comparison surface's TIN against a design surface — it is a field grading-QA deliverable. It does not do corridor modelling or machine-control upload.
- Can a published record be changed?
- No. A published revision is immutable, and that is enforced independently on the device, at the API and by a database trigger. To change what a sheet says, publish a new revision — which supersedes the previous one rather than overwriting it.
- Does ARKAK guarantee that a utility will not be struck?
- No, and no software can. ARKAK records and displays locate information and raises utility warnings. It does not replace locating, hydrovac verification, or any procedure required by the utility owner or by law.
- What happens to our data if a subscription lapses?
- Non-payment does not destroy data. Projects become read-only, export remains available, and backups are retained.
