LiDAR Availability

Why is LiDAR capture unavailable on my device?

Symptoms

  • The LiDAR capture option is disabled in the stockpile workflow.
  • A message states that LiDAR scanning is not supported.

Likely causes

  • The device has no LiDAR sensor. LiDAR is present on iPad Pro models from 2020 onward and on iPhone Pro models from the iPhone 12 Pro onward — not on standard iPhone or iPad models.
  • The app is running in the iOS Simulator, which has no LiDAR and is never allowed to pretend otherwise.

Step-by-step checks

  1. Confirm the device model has a LiDAR scanner.
  2. Confirm you are on a physical device, not a simulator.
  3. Confirm camera access has been granted, since scene reconstruction requires the camera.

Recommended solution

Use a LiDAR-equipped iPad or iPhone for scan-based capture. On a device without LiDAR, measure the stockpile using the other capture and boundary methods ARKAK provides — the volume calculation itself does not require LiDAR.

Hardware and permission requirements
